Re: Aussie headlamps (Alfetta GTV)

In Digest 381, Joe asks "Dare I ask why Down-Under-spec headlamps are
different than those
used in the rest of the world (excluding the USA)?"

Well Joe, as far as NZ goes, and probably Aussie too, actually the
down-under style of Alfetta headlamp is identical to that used in the rest
of the world as far as I know, and it's only the USA which differs. The USA
difference was a great benefit to me, in that USA junkyards can readily
provide the Alfetta GT/GTV6 adaptors which allow any standard-mounting
headlamp unit to be easily fitted to my Euro Alfetta, as a decent
replacement for the poor-quality Carellos which came on the Alfetta GT
(except in the USA, you lucky blighters).

Best regards,
Graham in N.Z.
78 Alfetta GTV, etc.
(PS I wish you Americans had had the Alfa Sud cars too! Then I would no
doubt have been able to pull the same stunt with the circular headlamps on
the Alfa Sud TI and Sprint, which again have their own unique-to-Alfa
mounting-designs, and are very scungey semisealed Siem headlamps). (Still
at least the Sprint design is reasonably easy to adapt to a decent
universal-style sealed or semisealed (Hella or whatever), but the Alfasud TI
mountings, oh boy, what a pain THEY are to adapt......).
