Re: alfa-digest V8 #355 - Engine mounts, elbows and incantations
Tony,
I am confused by your comment about there being three pairs of bolts.
Are you trying to unbolt the engine mount from the top of the rubber motor
mount? If so, that is wrong. The rubber is held to the cross member by two
bolts, actually one bolt and one stud with a nut. The bolt is easy to get
to. The nut on the stud is under the motor mount, but can be easily removed
with a 13 mm box end wrench.
If the mounts are badly sagged, the rubber may be puffed out over the
nut on the under side. Put a tuba four on top of a bottle jack under the oil
pan and jack the engine up a bit. That should stretch the rubber enough for
access to the nut.
Yes, you could cut the rubber. Ain't the Saw Z All a wonderful
invention? I have cut several Alfa rust buckets into tiny pieces since I got
mine. With care, you can even trim the parts prior to welding an Alfa back
together with a Saw Z All.
If you think access to the bolts is tough, be glad you have a Spica
car rather than a Bosch car. Access is even worse unless you remove the
Bosch intake plenum.
