Re[2]: 3 cyl Alfas



This may have been mentioned (I confess I haven't read every word of this
thread) but my father once told me that a reciprocating engine with a
multiple of 3 cylinders will naturally run smoother than one based on 2's
because when one piston fires the other two (of each triplet) are in
intermediate positions.  In other words, the crankshaft looks from the end
more like a Mercedes star than an L or a straight line.  His background was
radial aircraft engine and he said they always made 6, 9, 12, etc.
