FWD/RWD/AWD...
Those of you who are complaining about FWD ALFAs really need to drive a 156
before you complain. On our recent trip to Italy (okay with the Maserati
club) we rented a ALFA 156 diesel. It was a blast! I would buy one
tomorrow if available in the states. It had plenty of power (that's right a
diesel).
We met the group for a Friday night dinner about 30 miles outside Modena.
On the way back to Modena I followed a Ferrari 355. The Maserati guys were
just going to slow. The Ferrari and I held 220+ all the way back to Modena
@ night in the fog... Yes the Ferrari did lose me @ the toll both, but I
had the last laugh, the Ferrari driver got lost on his way back to the
hotel, I was parked and waiting for 10 minutes before he showed.
While in Modena I gave several of our group rides in the ALFA. We had
arrived in Italy on a Wednesday and managed to rent the ALFA. The rest of
the group arrived on Saturday and of course the rental agency was sold out.
The 156 was quite maneuverable around town, okay I scared the crap out of
most of the group. I just drove like your average Italian, in my estimate
NYC X 4 or so. So do not discount the FWD ALFAs, until you drive one.
If the new ALFA is indeed built in Italy, Marci and I will be there to pick
one up in 2004 or 5.
