re: growly Alfetta
Biba is asking about growly noises coming from the trans input area of
his Alfetta, it I understand his posting correctly.
His is an early model. He has a later model to cannibalize from.
Should he, he askes?
IF the problem is related to the clutch input shaft, there may not be
much alternative. I seem to remember, when I had a similar problem,
that getting an early Alfetta clutch, input shaft and input shaft
bearing, that there all were not readily available. The later model
cars had a tapered shaft, while the earlier ones had a (narrower)
straight shaft.
IF the input shaft has been harmed, it may be wise to go with the late
model stuff. I think would be needed would be the input shaft, bearing,
and housing, and of course, the clutch pack. Not too cheap, but cheaper
and easier than swapping the whole transaxle. Of course it won't be
"factory stock" any more, but if memory serves, Biba's car isn't exactly
stock anyway. VERY clean, and well done, mind you, but not stock, as it
came from the factory, at least.
