Speaking of 1974, something just occurred to me.  If one were to buy a
1974 vehicle today, he/she would never have to be responsible for biennial
smog tests under the current laws in California.  2004 is the year that
they become exempt under the 30 year rolling limit which is now less than
2 years away and (in theory anyway) it is the seller's responsibility to
smog test a vehicle prior to sale.
