Date of mfg vs registration
Scott Fisher asks:
<snip>
While I'm thinking of it -- is there anyone else on the Digest who knows
those two dates month/year of manufacture per the in-car plate, versus
first date of registration) for comparison? I have no real sense of how
long the pipeline was from Pininfarina's factory to the showroom floor.
It *seems* funky to me that there would be almost two years between
those events, but I have nothing to back that up. Even a few samples
would be interesting.
Thanks,

Well Scott, the door post plate for my 1979 Sprint Veloce has a date of
9/78. Elvira confirmed (below) that Alfa records show it was sold
(ordered?) quickly (3 days later) to a California customer. The original
customer had it imported to a shop in Miami Florida which did
modifications in October before shipping it on to California. The shop
had records of their work. California registration in November. This one
was imported and registered very quickly.
