Re:2.0 L Timing Chain Tensioner

"How does one properly install a chain tensioner when the head is already
attached to the block?"

Darryl,

I'm assuming you have the tensioner out and know how it works. Installing
the tensioner isn't all that difficult, but the biggest worry is dropping
pieces into the sump or getting them caught in the timing chains. I'd start
by removing the timing chain and set it someplace clean. Then I'd stuff a
piece of cloth down into the front cover of the engine to catch the
key/slider/thingamabobber that transfers the bolt compression into the
tensioner when the spring pushes the gear out of its holder. Once you can
work safely, start in trying to fit the gear, spring, key, and nut all
together through the head. I've found that putting a dollop of fresh oil on
the end of the gear tube will help hold the key in place as you slide the
assembly into the head. Good luck.

Cheers,
Lawrence
