164 tire wear
I rotated the tires on my 164 this morning. After 10K miles I wasn't
surprised that the front set of 4000e Pirellis was fairly worn along the
edges. When I bought the 4000's I had the front end aligned from a shop
w/experience working on Alfa's. At this rate, the tires will only last to
about 25K. From what other digest members have posted, this comes as no
surprise.
Since I rarely drive this car at 140 mph, I think I can downgrade my next
set of tires to something V-rated. Does anyone have any recomendations?
BTW, I'm sticking to the stock 195/65 R15 configuration.
When I first bought the car it came with Goodyear NCT Eagles. Good grip but
awful in wet weather. The sidewalls were incredibly weak -- three flat
tires from just grazing the curb when parking. Amazing.
The P4000's handle very well in the rain (as does the 164 in general) but
aren't as sticky as the Goodyears.
