Paul,

My 71 spider (with original floorpans afaik) has a
small heat shield over the cat.  Most are starting to
fall apart at this age, but maybe you could find the
metal backing and install some insulation on the
bottom of it.  I'll have to check the spider to see
how it mounts, but I think mine is riveted.
