Dead 164 Heater Core

Glenn,

The heater core is behind the A/C blower fan - not a difficult job to
remove, but fiddly and time-consuming, also needing de-gas, R&R and re-gas
of the A/C evaporator unit.

I did this job about two years ago to replace the blower motor, and after
posting my experiences of this on the 164 page, I wrote up a guide to the
job. I've had so many requests for this since that Stuart Heather has put a
copy of it on his Alfapro website.
My experience was with a RHD '89 model, but I think that the procedure
relates to later 164s as well.

Since I did this job, I have corresponded with several Alfisti about how to
remove the blower fan without removing the A/C. One theory is that by
removing the false firewall and the windscreen wiper assembly that it can be
taken out this way.

Recently, Dennis Martin and I have been corresponding (Dennis is another
subscriber to this digest) about removal the easy way, so Dennis might like
to chime in here if he has had any success.

Anyway - good luck with the job - think about replacing that blower motor
while you're in there and not having to take it all out some other time!

Hope this is helpful info!
