Well after looking under the 164Q again, and talking to the esteemed Bill Daemke, it seems pretty certain the heater core on my car is shot.
I'll ask a question that I think I know the answer to - how difficult is this to replace? Is this a similar procedure to replacing stepper motors?
If it's a simple repair I could do it myself - but so far I (as I suspected) there are NO simple repairs on this car :-(
