Enzo's bio

"The Enzo Ferrari biography was shown on A&E on Nov 8.
I missed it too. Hopefully it will be repeated."

I didn't miss it - it was put into rotation that
night, alternating with a bio of Ferdinand Porsche.
The best you could say about either of these
presentations is that they told the story OK and
didn't commit any serious howlers. Maybe I've been
spoiled by PBS and BBC historical pieces, but A&E, the
History Channel and several others make me crazy with
their stories chopped into bite-size fragments,
repeating beginnings and endings with each new bite,
and all delivered in a breathless, Wow-look-at-this!
style regardless of how much or how little real
interest the subject of the moment is worth. That's
why I'm sitting here writing this instead of
downstairs watching Dick Clark wax lyrical about
America's passion for the open road. I just know he
won't roam far beyond the Model T and the '57 Chevy...

I guess my perfect TV shows would be a Masterpiece
Theatre series exploring the lives and work of Aurelio
Lampredi, Giocchino Colombo, Ettore Bugatti, Colin
Chapman, Marc Birkigt, Fred and Augie Duesenberg...and
if Russell Baker didn't feel up to introducing the
episodes, I'd be happy to volunteer.
