Re: rear wheelwell opening size (introduced when?)
In AD8-0231 Steve Schaeffer, reiterating his earlier (AD8-0227) statement that
"Mid-'67 seems to be when GTV's went from the old lower rear wheelwell opening
to the larger style that allowed a wider tire to fit", writes "You can see
early '67 GTV's have the low rear wheelwells, and later '67's had the 'newer'
style." (I had, in AD8-0228, said it isn't so.)
OK, I had said I believed he was wrong, he says I am wrong, WADR it seems
easy enough to prove my case and should be equally easy for him to prove his
case.
At the time Alfa switched the Giulietta from series 750 to series 101 it
introduced a marvelously logical and rigorous parts numbering system, which
lasted until Fiat junked it.
In this new parts numbering system the first three digits are the series for
the original application of the part - 101, 102, 105, 106, 115, 116, 119, 162,
164.
Digits four and five are 00 if the part is common to all models of the
series, OR if it was the first application at a time when there was only one
model in the series (thus it is 00 for the Giulia T.I., although the TI was a
105.08 or 105.14), otherwise they are normally the numbers particular to the
model in the series for original application of the part, as shown on the
firewall plate (and sometimes elsewhere) on the car, and occasionally the
number of the project code (codice di studio) for a new model; thus the GTA is
a 105.02/A (codice di omologazione) but a 105.32 (codice di studio), giving
GTA-specific parts a 105.32 prefix.
Digits six and seven are the parts group - 00 for general (like, e.g., a
washer), 01 for the block, etc on up to 95 for seat belts; in the case at hand
it is 54, for body panels.
Digits eight, nine, and ten are the specific part within the parts group; in
the case at hand, 026 for right rear fenders and 027 for left rear fenders.
Digits eleven and twelve cover modifications or size changes; e.g. for rod
bearings standard, first oversize and second oversize will have 00, 01, 02 in
this position.
There may be two more digits after a slash- /01. /02, /03 for components of a
complete unit such as a wiper motor or a distributor
So: rear fenders for 105 cars are:
105.00.54.026.00, right, for all Giulia sedans-
105.00.54.027.00, left, for all Giulia sedans
105.02.54.026.00, right, for all Sprint GT, GTC, and Sprint GT Veloces
105.02.54.027.00, left, for all Sprint GT, GTC, and Sprint GT Veloces
105.03.54.026.00, right, for all roundtail Spiders
105.03.54.027.00, left, for all roundtail Spiders
105.32.54.026.00, right, for all GTA (codice di studio)
105.32.54.027.00, left, for all GTA (codice di studio)
105.41.54.026.00, right, for all 1750 and 2000 Berlinas (105.41 codice di
studio)
105.41.54.027.00, left, for all 1750 and 2000 Berlinas (105.41 codice di
studio)
105.44.54.026.00, right, for all 1750 (tipo 105.44) and 2000 GT Veloces
105.44.54.027.00, left, for all 1750 (tipo 105.44) and 2000 GT Veloces
105.95.54.026.00, right, for all squaretail Spiders
105.95.54.027.00, left, for all squaretail Spiders
IF there was a second, higher-arched pair of rear fenders first used on the
Giulia Sprint GT Veloce (the 105.36) in mid 1967 as Steve says they will have
the part numbers 105.36.54.026.00 and 105.36.54.027.00.
The parts books and parts price lists say there aren't any.
YMMV, but I'd like to see it shown - -
