2 liter and under Alfa engine bracket

Pure coincidence, but this is another put your hands (+ check books /
pens) up if you want one.

A week or so ago I was perhaps a bit more verbal than others (on the AD)
regarding a single sided engine bracket for two liter and under Alfa
engines.

Jim Steck of Mike Besic, etc. Bonneville fame (among other activities),
sent me a rough sketch of a proposed bracket.

I made suggestions, he made modifications, it's gone back and forth a
bit (gettin' better each time), and everything is pretty well pinned
downat least for a prototype. Trust me, this is all Jim's. All I'm
doing is facilitating dimensions because he doesn't have a Harbor
Freight stand handy.

It will mount on one side only. It will fit (for sure the 1,000
lb.#32916 and the #2,000 lb#04420, and most likely the 750 lb.
version#32916). Unfortunately HF didn't have the 'cheap' one set up (in
Pasadena, CA) today so I could verify.

Note: The 1,000 lb. one is normally 49.99 and is currently on sale
(11/11/01apparently at all HF stores) for 39.99not sure for how long.
It has four casters rather than three and will be much easier to move
around than the 'cheap' version.

While this proves nothing, I threw out the challenge to the Digest that
I've never heard of an Alfa engine block cracking / breaking from
mounting on one side onlyhas anyone? I'm still waiting. And trust me,
when you're working on an engine with a minimal of 'stuff' holding it up
and getting in your way, it makes the job go so much more quickly and
enjoyably. One can also mount the flywheel / clutch assembly whilst on
the stand.

After I give feedback on the prototype, I'll bow out. Jim will set the
price and anything else he feels important. He mentioned a pretty
reasonable figure based on fabricating ten. Do keep in mind, these
Custom brackets aren't being produced in China by the cazillions. This
is merely my opinion, but do remember the ancient adage of 'you snooze
you lose'.

Standard disclaimer: Yeah, yeah, I own Harbor Freight, not to mention
China (or is that redundant?).
