    I screwed up big time!  What I meant to say was:  The easiest and 
quickest way I have found to check a starter is to hook up a GOOD set of 
jumper cables from a running car with a good battery. If your Spider starts, 
the starter is good and you either have a battery or charging system problem. 
 If it doesn't start, you either are not getting power to the starter of the 
starter is bad.
       TheCharging system should run from 13.5 to 14.5 VDC with the engine 
running.  The battery should maintain 10 VDC while cranking.
       I hope this is clearer and I hope I haven't screwed too many people 
up.
