bicycle parts vs. ricambi originali

Having discovered that a bicycle brake cable works in a pinch to replace
a broken spica throttle cable (and my friends said I thought I kept a
bike on the roof to ride home when the alfa left me stranded!), I'm
wondering if anyone can offered a good reason to buy a "proper" throttle
cable.
