Just got my brain in gear, so the lube may not have made it to all of
the lobes, just yet, but. . .

How about a tapers torsion bar, skinnier at one end than the other.
Isn't that one way it's done with coil springs?  I know, pain in the
whatevers, and you are still pretty much stuck with the rate as provided
by the mfg.  Also not likely to find a great range, as it will have to
be pretty much specific for each car.  No one says it would be easy.

Less than 2 cents' worth, this time.
