Selling 164 horror story
Greetings Alfisti.
Here is a lesson about only selling an Alfa to an Alfa lover:
I just placed and sold my 1991 164L on Ebay. Buyer was nice and
very prompt, flew down from Oakland to my home in LA to pick up car.
When the fellow and his daughter arrive( car was for her) I drive
them around and show them how everything works. Car runs good and
everything is working. We stop and leave engine running and look at
all options and the like.
Said fellow signs paperwork back at my home and proceeds to drive back to L.A.
Nice fine transaction...........Nope..
I get a call today (this happed last night) and the buyer says "I
want you to know how disappointed I am". He goes on to explain
further " After about 30 minutes the alternator light comes on, and
then about an hour before I get home, the car starts to sputter and
then dies!". This was 5 hours of driving later. Next he tells me
he is considering "stopping payment on the check" because I might
have sold him a car without the alternator belt on it.
Ok, maybe I am being a jerk, but wouldn't most people with a
reasonable amount of intelligence, have stopped to maybe see why the
light came on?
I can only imagine the damage done after driving 400miles with the belt gone.
He says the lights "slowly dimmed over the next 5 hours".
He's disappointed with ME? This guys does not deserve to drive my
beloved 164 and I wish I had sold it to one of the other 9 bidders,
one of which may have some sense.
Anyway, beware of non alfa owners!
