Water Pump Removal

Having waded through all the discussion, I feel compelled to make some
comments. I cannot understand why anyone would want to go through all the
rigmarole of removing the crank pulley just to replace the water pump.
That's just asking for punishment. I think I'm right in also claiming to
have introduced this digest to the trick of removing the pump by
double-nutting a stud and since then many have used it with success and
saved themselves a huge amount of time and effort. At least one person
(Brian Shorey?) used this method to get mobile again after a water pump
failed in the middle of a cross-continent trip: I can't imagine anyone
being able to do the repair by themselves (1 person) on the roadside, using
the more difficult method of removing the crank pulley.

The other point I have to stress is that just ONE stud needs to be removed,
not 2 or 3 as some have suggested. The details are in the reply to Tess's
original enquiry. At the moment I am driving around with a water pump that
I installed just 5 days ago, and that's how I know. End of discussion.
