Re: alfasud rarity/various grades

I dont know how things might have changed in the past few years in Greece,
but up till 1996 there were quite a few Alfasuds around there, and a good
supply of Alfasud Sprints.

Btw, the rumour there was that if the car had been imported from Belgium it
was a better quality and would last longer, and I for one can attest that a
friend's 82 Sprint (bought brand new in Belgium and brough to Greece when it
was a baby) was like new where someone else's 81 had almost rusted through.

Just year difference or a coincidence?

Having worked for Fiat for a while I was told that one of the numbers on the
VIN was a quality grade indicator, and could tell you what group of markets
the car was destined for.
Is that also true or just another urban legend?

as they rusted. Quickly. I went to the vintage races at the Nurburgring two
years ago and there was one Alfasud there... The Alfa corral was over 300
strong. My friend there even commented on how unusual it was to see this
car. It's a shame that whole generations of recent cars from europe were not
available to be "stored away" in California and Arizona... Could have made
for a lively trade back to Europe in the future...
