AD8-0096 through AD8-0100 there has been a thread on titling a car which has
no title. Check with your DMV. It used to be quite impossible where I live, -
"no paper, no title, go away" - but I recently contacted the DMV outlining a
current problem, (Alfa content: Sport Sedan) and the reply I got was:

 "As long as the vehicle is currently in state, you may contact an insurance
company licensed to issue Indemnity Bonds, once you've purchase the bond, you
may present that to this division along with proof of insurance and a
title/reg can be assigned to you by bond."

 State regulations differ state-to-state, and costs of purchasing an indemnity
bond (which simply guarantees that any financial liability resulting from the
transaction would be covered) from an insurance company may vary, but it seems
like a logical and simple procedure which should not be expensive, and other
more advanced states may have a similar procedure in place.
