Thanks everyone- the noise exists at low idle- moving, rolling, under power,
sitting still. As long as the idle is somewhere under 1200rpm or so you can
hear the rattling. Noise does not disappear when clutch is pressed to the
floor. The only thing that affects the sound is the rpms.

Thanks- gonna have to put her up on the lift soon.

now? If so, the noise is coming from somewhere in the drivetrain".

   This statement is for front mounted transmissions. If the car has a
transaxle, the driveshaft will continue to spin. So if the noise goes away
with the clutch pedal to the floor, suspect a transaxle related problem.
