While I'm not going to comment on "real" Alfas or the merit of
recycling model names, I feel compelled to offer my argument that the
new 156 model is not a GTA. For starters, it's not even a GT car, as
it has two too many doors to be at GT (yes, I made a point to get
three forms of "to" in that sentence). And it's hard to argue that's
it's been A'd since (correct me if I'm wrong) the curb weight is
GREATER than that of a regular 156. I think "Quadrifoglio Verde"
might have been a much more appropriate suffix for the new model.
Although it may be appropriate in today's world for Alfa's fastest
car to be an AWD 4-door, it's my understanding that they intend to
build similarly equipped versions of their other models. So "yeah, I
bought a GTA" will become totally ambiguous. It wouldn't surprise me
if somewhere in the combined FIAT/GM bureacracy they have a
Department of Redundancy Department, but a GTV GTA? Please.
BTW, anyone have any good Italian names for the mousetrap-powered car
thing I'm building for my Engineering class?

(any free Berlinas in the Pittsburgh area? I'd like to go home for
my long weekend in October...)
