In V8 #81 Andrew comments / asks: I have a polished engine cover on my
2.0 and I need some ideas on cleaning and polishing it up again. I have
tried Autosol but it takes hours to get minor results and a mountain of
rags as each new wipe picks up more dirt!
Any suggestions???

While I know there are folks out there who strongly feel it is major
cheating if you don't do the job yourself, I learned long ago there are
simply jobs best left up to those who have the tools / materials /
know-howthis is one of them.

If your '79 Alfetta GT is your daily driver, try to borrow a cam cover
from a friend, if you don't already have one. Take it to a polisher and
for not too many AUS $, you should get back a virtually mirror finished
cam cover. Replace the gasket and lovingly install. You will be the envy
of the neighborhood.

Women, most of whom feel (in my experience) but certainly not all (Tess)
the engine is that dirty thing under the hood / bonnet. Even I've
received more than a few 'oh mys' from the female population when
'offered' to let them see my somewhat over the top engine. (Who's trying
to overcompensate?).

Great choice in cars.
