Re; 1973 Spider production and/or sales
Keith Savage asks "Does anyone know how many 73 spiders were made and/or
imported to USA? I know there were lots more 74's than 73 but would like to
know how rare my car is."
The different numbers for cars produced in a given year, model years (not the
same thing), and year of sale are hard to reconcile, but the published US sale
figures (for all models) are 2,758 in '73, 3,134 in '74, 5,418 in '75.
According to d'Amico & Tabucchi's serial numbers US-spec cars produced in 1973
included 650 Berlinas, 1,083 GT Veloces and 1,359 Spiders, a total of 3092
cars, 334 more than 1973 sales. For 1974, 302 Berlinas. 900 GT Veloces,and
3500 Spiders, a total of 4702 cars, 1568 more than were sold in 1974. For
1975, no 115 Berlinas, 1,189 GT Veloces, 2,421 Spiders and 2,300 Alfetta
Berlinas, a total of 5,910 cars, 492 more than the number sold in 1975. What
happened to the extra 2,394 cars manufactured in those three years? I can't
guess. I suspect that the 1974 Spider production was increased to beat the
1975 bumper restrictions with 1974 cars which could be sold in 1975, but there
is plenty of room for idle speculation.
Cheers
