Spica rebuilds
I first had my spica pump evaluated by a specialist in 1982. a shop
that specialized in BMW and Mercedes diesel injection pumps agreed to
test it on the condition that i NOT tell anyone they did it for me. (20
years later, i hope they forgive me) but they didn't want to deal with a
bunch of dummies who didn't know how to set up the pumps correctly.
turns out they knew quite a bit about this stuff.
I was one of the dummies, there was nothing wrong with my pump but, for
the sum of 125.00 he went through it, replaced some seals, tested on the
flow bench, cleaned and matched 2 sets of injectors.
not bad huh?
About the same time, one of the ARA tech sessions discussed some basic
spica repairs and symptoms...... so, on the premise "a little knowledge
is a dangerous thing" I'm a dangerous guy who's going to service the
check valves one of these days.
if there were someone to send the thing to who could do this limited
repair, i'd be inclined to send it to them.
Not to take away from anything Wes does, I think there is a need for a
broader range of services than he offers. i think if someone were to
offer a flow test, match injectors and general evaluation for less the
the cost of a complete rebuild exchange, that person would get allot of
business. i have a couple of pumps i wouldn't mind having checked out...
