Weight and rear drive
Come again? A drive shaft to the rear of the car weighs a significant
amount? I don't think so. Front drive has many advantages for the regular
street driver but significant weight saving isn't one of them, that's just
ad hype and incorrect at that. For high performance driving front drive
just can't cut the mustard. I have driven nothing else for the last 20
years and I can assure you that although front drive is fun in its own way,
it cannot deliver the driving exoerience of a powerful rear drive car (if
it ain't powerful enough to oversteer then fwd is the way to go)
Modern cars are so heavy because they must be designed to crash into things
and allow the occupants to walk away. Oh yes, and be cheap enough for
regualr folks to buy. Check out vehicle weights over the last 30 years and
you'll see what I mean. Strong isn't light unless exotic materials are
used. You just can't get a decent car under about 2,500 lbs anymore and
rear wheel drive isn't the culprit!
