Re: Just discussing crankshafts

To figure out whether nitriding is worthwhile for a
street machine, maybe we can look at the relative
purchases of standard bearings to undersized bearings
for 2 Liters vs the others. Any vendors or mechanics
out there that would care to chime in?

We should also look at the relative costs of standard
bearings vs undersized bearings for each.

Another thought:

I'm not sure of the relevance of whether the car is a
street car or track car anyway. Isn't the presence of
contaminants in the oil what causes most crank
scoring?
Most of the cranks that I've seen (admittedly not a
lot) have needed regrinding for moderate scoring
caused I think by dirt, rather than damage caused by
lack of oil to the journals. Again, maybe a
professional out there can comment.

PS to Jay:

I'll probably be taking a trip South in the next few
weeks. I can pick up a crank for you from APE if you
want.
