Re: Another survey you'r not gonnalike.
In AD vol 8 #26 Mr Tim Hancock writes:
"I just sat down to watch the BBC Lunchtime news and the last item was the
results of a survey carried out on new car owners by 'Which' (The Consumers
Association)."
"Results: Disappointingly predictable with the usual suspects in the top
positions and Rover, Alfa and LandRover in the bottom three slots. Just 5%
of Lexi required unscheduled dealer repairs in year one and the figure for
the bottom three was 20%."
Well, it really doesn't matter if we like it or not, IMHO, because Alfa's got
to make it on their own in this automotive competitive climate. If they take
it on the chin a few times and learn even more things about what customers
expect, then so be it. Maybe that's what it will take to get them the final
10 yards. The cars have quite obviously improved dramatically compared even
to the recent 164. If this unpleasant process results in a better product
that people besides we Alfista will buy, then that's fine because that's the
only way Alfa will be alive and kicking 10 years from today. I'll guarantee
you that.
"One car the Patel family will not be
buying is this Alfa Romeo which would not even start"(shot of 156 with
bonnet up and power booster parked next to it."
Now this is something else-- typical biased, barely-informed journalism.
Anyone who's ever shopped for a new car has run into an occasional model out
on the lot that has a flat battery, hasn't been run since it was parked there
four months previously. That kind of blatant stab doesn't surprise me, it's
the kind of "reporting" one would expect from Consumer Reports or other
bland-mag here in the US that worships anything made in Japan.
Hopefully, the overall picture for Alfa in world markets will remain
positive. But it's going to take a full realization and ACTION on the part
of FIAT to ensure a positive dealership experience, responsive service, and a
product that measures up to the benchmarks expected. That is, essentially,
how Lexus and the others succeed.
