Wrong. ALFA is both plural and singular.
in Italian I can say:
UN'ALFA (an alfa)
L'ALFA  ("the Alfa")
LE ALFA (plural of "the alfa")
DELLE ALFA (some alfa)

do not ask me further grammar explanation. That's just how 
we use it everyday.
