auto electronics

Let me back up Eric. I work for a company that manufactures semiconductors. 
We do very little automotive business for various reasons. Part of the 
reason is that automotive electronics suppliers have very stringent long 
term reliability requirements for their semiconductor manufacturers. Which 
led to an interesting discussion with another employee:
me: "Part of the challenge is that the auto manufacturers need long-term 
reliability requirements, 10 years and more"
him: "What? Who drives a car more than 10 years old?"
me: "Well, me. I have a 1982 Alfa Romeo."

I can't directly tell you what went on for suspension thing, no idea what 
went on there.  But, yes, electronics were held in very high regard.  One 
way to look at this is that most companies are filled with people who doubt 
electronics just like a lot of you, so we are actually required to show that 
things were thought of to the extent that a large team could think of.

If you don't want to be reassured, then there is nothing I can do.  All I 
can do is tell you what I know the industry is doing.
