funny... Mercedes actually offer such a system in some part of the
globe. Toyota also had similar system on their top of the line lux
sedan of their home land. They did a comparison review and concluded
that while it might be at right direction, it is far from
practical.
Mercedes system had 7 degree scanning angle so it won't
work during corners, and won't break enough if approaching another
vehicle at much higer speed and that human intervention was needed to
avoid collision.
well, computers ARE making decisions more and more. All the traction
control and vehicle dynamics control are excactly that by breaking
individual wheel to gain the balance. hm.. one day, the self learning
computer will counter steer for us into a 4 wheel drift corner as well,
additional gyro will keep the car planted flat avoiding roll over, even
if the car is air borne :) The satisfying Alfa exhaust note and induction
noise would be generated by sophisticated audio system coupled with active
noise cancelation to muffle out non-alfa exhaust note etc. ... uhoh... so
why bother with a driver if that day comes?... I'll keep my verde running
:)
