Being truly sad, I asked this question in soc.culture.italian a few years
ago. The answer I got was that it is always alfista because Alfa is
feminine. I'm not saying it's the right answer just because he was Italian -
after all I'm harldy the definitive source for questions of English usage.
But that's what I was told.
