Second gear synchros in Alfa gear boxes wear out because the owner doesn't 
know how to change gears! There is no other cause for this problem. 
Second point any 164 5 speed owner with gearbox noise that changes as he 
changes gear has WORN OUT GEAR BOX BEARINGS, especially if the car has 100,000 
miles on it. Ask me how I know.
