Alfa Romeo to make BTCC return

Alfa Romeo will contest a double-header of this year's BTCC championship
in what many feel is a taster of a full-scale return in 1999.

The Italian manufacturer has committed two 156s for at least the
Thruxton race on August 2 for Nicola Larini and Fabrizio Giovanardi,
with the possibility of more later in the year.

Politics in the ITCC could see Alfa and two other manufacturers turn
their backs on the series and contest further rounds of the BTCC and the
German Super Touring Championship.
